Hi there,

We honestly don't know which specific test Bain Germany is using right now — these things change and vary by office and intake.

The good news: it doesn't really matter. Whether it's SOVA, TestGorilla, or anything else, these assessments are all testing the same underlying skills — numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, logical / abstract thinking, and sometimes situational judgment. The principles are identical across platforms.

What actually helps:

1) Practice with timed tests — not theory. The time pressure is real and you need to build the muscle memory of working quickly and accurately.
2) Don't overthink individual questions. Move fast, keep accuracy high.
3) The situational judgment elements (if included) are about prioritization and professional judgment — answer as a consultant would, not as you would in your personal life.

For what it's worth — I have 10 past real online tests (across Bain, BCG, and others) in my prep pack. Feel free to message me if you'd like access.

Good luck — fingers crossed!

Short answer: it depends on the office and even the specific role, so there isn’t one fixed test for Germany.

From what people have been seeing recently, both SOVA and TestGorilla are still used. There’s a slight trend toward TestGorilla, but SOVA definitely hasn’t disappeared.

TestGorilla is more of a classic timed test with numerical and logical reasoning, a bit like GMAT style under pressure. SOVA is broader and can include reasoning, situational judgment, and sometimes personality or video elements.

So realistically, you could get either. The safest approach is to prepare for timed numerical and logical reasoning, since that covers the core of both.

If you want, I can give you a quick prep plan depending on which one you get. best, Alessa :)

Bain Germany has been using SOVA for most full-time roles over the past 12 months, but this can shift by role and office. TestGorilla shows up occasionally for specific positions, usually more technical or data-focused ones.

A few things worth doing:

  • Ask the recruiter directly. They will tell you which one you are getting, and it saves guessing.
  • Check with recent Bain Germany hires on LinkedIn. A polite short message asking about their recent process usually gets a quick reply.
  • Prep for SOVA first as the default. It covers numerical, logical, and situational judgement. Practice tests are widely available online.

Also check the PrepLounge forum for recent threads, a few candidates usually post their experience right after going through it.

Good luck.

Ask the recruiter.

The tests can change, so it's hard to say.

And the good news is that to a certain degree, all these tests are similar. So if you practice the core skills that are being tested for you will already build a strong base.

Then once you know what test is being used exactly you can go find more tailored materials.

Best,
Cristian
