I'm a student in the US and I finished my final interview for McKinsey's 2026 Summer BA Internship in one of their Chinese offices two weeks ago. I think I did quite well and the partner said I would hear back after 2-3 days of deliberation, but it has been two weeks and I have not heard anything yet. China did just have a work holiday that lasted from when I interviewed until last week, but that still means they have had 5 business days. Is this timeline normal? When would it be appropriate to contact my recruiter?
McKinsey -- When to expect offer?
Congratulations on making it to the final round and hope that you get the good news soon. I know how nerve-wrecking it is to be waiting for the recruiter call. Given that the final round is usually done by Partners, its normal that it could take up to 2 weeks and sometimes more for the recruiter to be able to schedule a decision call and bring the final round interviewers together for a discussion. Just keep your ringer on and watch for your phone.
Hope you get the acceptance call and keep us posted.
Sorry to hear you've been waiting for so long.
I also waited for 10 days after my final interview with McKinsey and it was excruciating.
But do know that they didn't forget about you. You can send a polite reminder to the recruiter (if you haven't already done so) but otherwise it's just a waiting game. Something on their side likely came in between.
Try, if possible, to keep yourself focused on something else in the meantime. The constructive thing would be to focus on advancing your recruiting journey with other fims in the meantime, just to be prepared for a worst case scenario with McKinsey.
Best,
Cristian
Hi there,
That timeline sounds pretty normal, especially since the China offices just came back from the long holiday and things tend to move a bit slower afterward. I’d give it a few more days, and if you still haven’t heard back by the end of this week, it’s totally fine to send a short, polite check-in to your recruiter.
Hi there,
Yes — that timeline is still quite normal, especially for China offices where holidays and internal approvals can delay feedback. Even though the partner mentioned 2–3 days, final decisions often take 1–3 weeks to process after interviews, particularly for internship roles that require coordination across recruiting teams.
Given it’s now been about two weeks (and only five business days post-holiday), it’s reasonable to wait a few more days, then send a short, polite email to your recruiter early next week. Keep it simple — express appreciation for the opportunity, mention you’re checking in on your application status, and reaffirm your enthusiasm for the role.
So in short: delays like this are common, especially after holidays — you’re still within the normal range.
Best,
Evelina
It seems they only got back to work this week... my response was also delayed. Now would be a good time to follow up!
