Mckinsey Sea wolf game

I'd like to ask about the updated mckinsey solve game, does it still have the Sea Wolf game. Last time I found it. I created an excel sheet to easily and quickly silve it

Hi,

Yes, Sea Wolf is still there
As of 2026 the assessment is built around 3 games: Sea Wolf, Redrock Study and Sustainable Future Lab. So your Excel sheet should still work.

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Yes, from the experience of my coachees, both for Middle East offices and other regions, The Sea Wolf continues to be the second of three games you need to solve in the McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

Confirmed, Sea Wolf is still part of the current McKinsey Solve, alongside Redrock Study and the more recent Sustainable Future Lab. You can tell from the length which format you have: a 65-minute invite means Redrock and Sea Wolf only, while an 85-minute one includes the third game too.

Yes, Sea Wolf is likely not going to be phased out for another few years.

If they are going to rotate anything out it may be Red Rock, given its age, or Sustain Futures Lab given it's rudimentary UI.

Yes, Sea Wolf (Ocean Cleanup / Microbe game) remains a core component of the McKinsey Solve assessment, usually paired with Redrock Study (and in newer formats, Sustainable Futures Lab). It evaluates constraint matching and microbe trait optimization under tight 30-minute time constraints.

Building a custom Excel solver during prep helps you master the constraint logic. However, avoid using external spreadsheets during the proctored test itself, as non-approved software can flag your session or penalize process-tracking metrics. Instead, practice converting target attribute ranges into target sums mentally on scratch paper to filter candidate microbe profiles quickly on test day.
