McKinsey - London

Hi all,

I am an experienced professional and have recently applied for an Associate and Consultant position at McKinsey in London. I received an email of thanks. Then a couple of days later I received a more personalised email from four people in their recruiting team outlining that their office will be closed for processing of applications until the 16th of Jan. However, I was invited to the McKinsey Solve 'game.' I completed the game with time, and believe I answered everything to a satisfactory standard (now to wait). Question for the experience guides/oracles. Is the Solve game now sent to everyone, or did I pass some sort of screen whereas I was accepted through the initial gate, and now I must wait for the results? Interestingly, my status has changed from Submitted to Submitted: In Progress and I can no longer withdraw or alter (I was going to add some McKinsey contact references) the application.

Thanks all and sorry if this post is beating a dead horse...

Cam

Hey there,

In terms of the general McKinsey checkpoints in the recruiting journey:

  • Stage 1: Application Screening => Candidates background and experience (mainly through CV) are screened as well as other information uploaded in your McKinsey profiel
  • Stage 2: Solve Assessment => Candidates that pass through Stage 1 will be invited to play the Solve Game
  • Stage 3: Round 1 Interviews => Candidates that pass the Solve Game will usually be invited to go through to Round 1 interviews. (In some offices and regions, there may be an additional candidate screening at this point too)
  • Stage 4: Round 2 Interviews => Candidates that pass Round 1 interviews will be invited for final round of interviews (usually with Partners and Associate Partners in the office you are applying to)
  • Bonus stage: Background (and other) Checks => Candidates that pass final round of interviews will be given an offer to join the firm subject to passing background checks (and sometimes other HR requirements - i.e. immigration)

So in short, to answer your question: No - not everyone is invited to play the Solve game, and your results now are with the recruiting team and they will advise on next steps

That said, wishing you all the best!

Hey Cam!

The Solve game is typically sent to candidates who pass an initial screening, so receiving it suggests you’ve cleared that first gate. The status change to "Submitted: In Progress" aligns with this. Now, you’ll need to wait for the results from the Solve game before potentially moving forward in the process.

Good luck!

Alessa :)

It seems you’ve passed the initial screening.

They will now decide whether to invite you to interviews based on your profile and test score.
