McKinsey KIT Invitation Before Final Interview Outcome

Hi, I just received an invitation email for the McKinsey KIT (Keep in Touch) program, but I still haven’t received the final outcome after my interview last week.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar before. Does receiving a KIT invitation usually mean anything regarding the interview outcome? Could it be interpreted as a rejection signal, or is it generally unrelated to the recruiting decision?

A KIT invitation is generally not a signal about your interview result. Recruiting and the KIT program run on separate tracks, and it’s common for people to receive KIT emails while their interview outcome is still being processed. It also doesn’t imply rejection; many candidates who later got offers were invited to KIT in the meantime. The safest assumption is that it’s unrelated and your interview result is simply still being finalized.

Hi there,

That's very odd.

Typically, they give you this invitation if your application didn't work out, but they thought you were a high-potential candidate.

If you haven't formally received the outcome of your application, it might also be a system mistake. Don't assume that it's a silent rejection.

Hope you hear back soon from them, and if you don't follow up with a polite reply!

Best,
Cristian

A KIT invite before the final outcome is usually a soft rejection signal, though not always.

KIT is McKinsey's Keep in Touch programme for candidates who didn't get an offer but who they want to stay engaged with for future rounds. The invite is often bundled with or sent just before the formal rejection.

That said, it's a "come back" signal. Candidates who reapply in 12 to 18 months with stronger profiles get serious consideration.

Wait for the formal email. If it's a no, accept KIT genuinely and use the time to strengthen your profile.

Good luck.
