McKinsey Australasia additional step in the recruitment process

I was wondering if anyone  would have some insights or information about the McKinsey recruitment process in Australasia. It came to my attention that there's an additional step in the recruitment process under the form of a 30-min phone case interview between the digital assessment and the 1st round of interview. Any idea why? Which type of assessment should we expect as I assume there won't be any exhibits as it will be only by phone? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi there,

Different offices do slightly different things - nothing to read into here!

Essentially, you're correct in thinking there won't be any exhibits. This is a no exhibit case where they'll provide information verbally. Now, this doesn't mean there won't be numbers, so still be prepared to calculate things and stay organized. Really, keep your case prep lessons in mind and you'll do just fine!

Hey there,

The assessment is usually easier than a normal case interview. It is more of a test if you are ready before ‘’wasting'' consultant's time, who are busier than usual currently.

If it's done via Zoom, there will be exhibits, if only via phone, then there are no exhibits. I had coachees with both experiences.

Still, you should prepare and perform in the same way as for a case interview in rounds 1 or 2. For more guidance on that, check out this article: https://www.preplounge.com/en/mckinsey-interview

Cheers,

Florian

Hello,

Different offices have different processes, so this is just how offices in Australasia do it. I would assume that the phone case interview is just a regular case but without exhibits as you say (though it could involve some maths). It would be a good idea to practice a few cases over the phone to make sure you are comfortable doing the case and communicating clearly with no visual aides.

Hi!

Different offices have slightly different recruiting processes.

In your phone case interview, I wouldn't expect exhibits.

Good luck,

Anto
