MBB London virtual interview dress code

Hi All. What should I wear to a virtual McK London interview? Is a shirt with quarter zip appropriate or should I wear a suit / shirt? TIA!

Quarter zip. Too casual in my view.

Minimum: formal shirt, no tie needed.
Safe choice: shirt + blazer. Looks sharp on camera without going full suit.

Rule of thumb: dress one level up, not down. Quarter zip reads startup, not MBB.

If HR sent interview instructions, check those first. Otherwise, default to blazer + shirt.

For consulting interviews always er on the side of formal. Suit for men, button up shirt / blouse and blazer for the ladies.

It is very likely your interviewers will also be in suit (maybe tie) and you don't want to be the casual one.

Good luck!

It's a totally fair question, and one many candidates wonder about with virtual interviews. While the setup is remote, the core expectation for an MBB interview, especially with McKinsey London, remains the same: treat it exactly as you would an in-person meeting in their office.

That means a full suit is appropriate. A shirt with a quarter zip, while comfortable and common in some professional settings, isn't the standard for an interview at this level. You want to project utmost professionalism, polish, and respect for the firm and the process. Interviewers are looking for signals of someone ready to represent the firm, and that presentation starts with your attire.

It's always safest to err on the side of formality. Go with the suit, shirt, and tie (or equivalent formal business wear).

All the best with your interview!
