Hi,
I have a case interview at Simon-Kucher in a month, and I was wondering whether anyone has had any experience interviewing there? In that case, which type of interview did you experience? Interviewer-led or candidate led?
Thank you in advance!
Hi,

That's a smart question to be asking as you prep for Simon-Kucher. The reality is, most firms, including Simon-Kucher, don't exclusively stick to one style. It's rarely a black-and-white distinction.
However, given Simon-Kucher's specialization in pricing, marketing, and sales strategy, their cases can often feel a bit more structured or "interviewer-led" in the sense that they might guide you through specific analytical steps to evaluate pricing levers or market segments. They're looking for strong analytical rigor and a clear, logical thought process, so the interviewer might interject to test specific hypotheses or steer you towards a particular data point. You still need to demonstrate your own structure, but be ready for them to jump in.
The best approach is to be flexible and prepared for both. Master your core frameworks, practice asking insightful clarifying questions, and be ready to drive the case while also responding directly and thoughtfully to any prompts or data dumps the interviewer provides. Your ability to adapt and synthesize information under guidance is what they're really looking for.
Hope this helps, and good luck with the interview!
Simon-Kucher typically runs interviewer-led cases, which makes sense given their focus on pricing and commercial strategy. The interviewer will guide you through the problem, ask specific questions, and direct the flow rather than handing you the wheel.
That said, this can vary by office and interviewer. The best thing you can do is ask the recruiter directly when you confirm the interview. A simple "could you tell me the format of the case interview" is a completely normal question and they will usually tell you.
Either way, the fundamentals do not change. Structure your thinking, be clear about your reasoning, and do not just throw frameworks at the problem. With a pricing-focused firm, expect questions around willingness to pay, value-based pricing, and market segmentation. That is their bread and butter.
Hey Nora!
From recent exerperience from my German mentees I would argue it's interviewer-led! Let me know if you need insights for their interviews! Happy to support!

Hi Nora
Congrats on your upcoming interview! From what I understand, the format can sometimes vary depending on the case. No matter the format, it’s important to show leadership and actively drive the case forward, so keep that in mind as you prepare.
Good luck!
Annika
By now, most interviews are somewhere in between (plus, the particular style of each interviewer also influences this).
If anything, I would approach it primarily as a candidate-led interview. This way you signal that you want to lead the case forward.
Best,
