Back to overview

I have been invited to OC & C Germany interview for the AC role. Currently I am just at the online test stage, but wanted to understand how does the test look like and how can I best prepare myself for the test. How is the process after the test?

Lucky for you the OC&C test, McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so you really can leverage the practice tests for all of them in order to prepare.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether it is a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl. key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other...clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case-related and account formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc.) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction. You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

PRACTICE TESTS

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them. There are a ton of practice tests out there — just search for them!

CHART/GRAPH INTERPRETATION

Best Rote Practice

  • Rocket Blocks

Best Practice Strategy

  1. Read the Economist (especially the daily graph) and Financial Times frequently
  2. Ask case partners to focus particularly on your chart-reading skills (i.e. by providing you with cases with many charts) — Bain and Deloitte cases tend to be chart heavy

Graph Interpretation Tips

  1. Read the title — and understand it
  2. Read the legends — and understand them
  3. Remind yourself of the objective / hypothesis in the case, to see where this might fit
  4. Find the differences — where does the line graph plummet or spike? Which column is a lot smaller or bigger than the others? Where does change occur? The differences are what matter
  5. Talk out loud while interpreting — first, it helps you think and process your thoughts, second, it lets the interviewer provide guidance and course correct if needed

hey Kunal!

The test is usually a mix of numerical reasoning, business logic, and short case‑style questions. It’s not as heavy as a full case interview, but you do need to be quick with charts, tables, and basic math. The best prep is to practice GMAT‑style data interpretation and a few SHL‑type numerical tests to get your speed up.

If you pass the test, the process moves to live interviews: typically two case interviews in Round 1, then a final round with more senior interviewers. The cases are classic OC&C style, structured, data‑driven, and very logical. If you’re comfortable with charts, structuring, and clear communication, you’ll be in good shape.

For OC&C Strategy Consultants Germany, the online test is usually pretty standard. Expect a mix of:

  • numerical reasoning (tables, charts, quick calculations)
  • logical / analytical questions
  • sometimes short business scenarios

Nothing crazy in terms of content — the main challenge is time pressure.

How to prepare:

  • practice SHL / GMAT-style numerical questions
  • get comfortable reading charts quickly
  • train mental math (percentages, growth rates, ratios)

Don’t overcomplicate it. A few focused practice sessions are enough.

After the test, if you pass, you typically move to interviews:

  • 1st round: case + fit
  • 2nd round: similar format, sometimes a bit more conversational / senior

OC&C cases tend to be quite commercial and market-focused (pricing, growth, profitability), so keep that in mind when you prepare.

Overall:

  • test = speed + accuracy
  • interviews = classic consulting skills

If you want, I can walk you through what their cases usually look like or do a quick mock.

Congrats on the OC&C invite.

The test is usually a numerical and logical reasoning assessment, around 30 to 45 minutes. Expect data interpretation, percentages, ratios, and chart reading. Calculator is usually allowed, confirm in your invite.

To prep, do GMAT or GRE quant for two weeks, practise reading charts in 60 seconds each, and always use a timer.

After the test, expect a first round with one case and one fit interview. Then a second round with senior consultants and a Partner. OC&C cases are commercially grounded, think real businesses and real customers.

Good luck.
