Hello. Extrapolating from all the people I know, there are millions of people out there who have heard of AI but are afraid of even trying to use it. I'm not discussing corporations who need agents to run half their business, just individuals who would like a basic contract written or an animated cartoon of their dog created. These small money clients could soon add up to compare to the revenue that would be generated by a couple of big corporate projects, IMHO. So... how would you start a business like this? Where would you advertise or promote or? Any suggestions welcomed!
How to start an AI consulting biz for 0-skills individuals, not companies
In the first 30 days, do this.
Pick one specific person you want to help. Not "individuals" or "small business owners." One real person. Your aunt with the shop is a great start. Build the offer around her, then find 10 more like her.
Do 3 to 5 jobs near-free for people in your network. The goal isn't revenue yet, it's real reactions, testimonials, and short clips of you doing the work.
Post the process, not the pitch. 30-second videos of "here's the photo my friend sent, here's the cartoon 5 minutes later." TikTok or Reels. Don't sell, just show.
Set one clear price for one clear thing. "$49 for a custom pet cartoon." Productised and simple, no scope debate.
On the customer acquisition cost concern, fair if you go paid ads. But organic short-form has near-zero CAC if the videos are good. The real risk is whether you'll post consistently for 60 to 90 days before traction kicks in.
Start small, start specific, start this week.
Good luck.
Hey,
Just to better understand: iiuc, the business model would be something like
- My aunt owns a small shop but can't use AI for her graphics / website / etc. (for lack of skills)
- I can quickly get something done with AI!
- I can charge her for the difference between the value I give and the minimal cost it takes me to generate what she needs with AI
I would not be super-bullish on this model tbh, customer acquisition costs are probably too high to justify the fees.
Happy to hear more though!
Best,
Tom
