Dinged from McKinsey and BCG. Can I reapply after a year?

I got rejected during the internship and full-time cycle at McKinsey in the final round.

I also got rejected by BCG during the full-time cycle.

I'll graduate with my MBA soon. After that, any hope in getting an interview with these firms? Or is the door closed for life?

McKinsey offers w/o final round interviews - 100% risk-free - 10+ years MBB coaching experience - Multiple book author

Hi Anonymous,

While the usual waiting period is 18 to 24 months, some exceptions apply.

Basically it depends on the underlying reasons why you got dinged and how fast you can demonstrate credibly that you have done major improvements in those areas.

Speculation also doesn't help that much - the only way to find out really is to grab your phone and call your HR contact to openly discuss your situation and get their advice.

Hope this helps - if so, please give it a thumbs-up with the green upvote button below!

Yes, you can definitely re-apply, although the 1-2 year cooling period depends by location. Considering you reached the final rounds for McKinsey, you're clearly capable of doing the job. What has your interview feedback been like? A coaching session through PrepLounge is also a great way to get honest and detailed constructive feedback on what you may want to work on before you re-apply :)

#1 MBB Coach(Placed 750+ in MBBs & 1250+ in Tier2)| The Only 360° coach(Ex-McKinsey+Certified Coach+Active recruiter)

I'm sorry to hear that.

But good thing is that you can apply again after 12-18 months, and you will have a priority - MBA graduation. Also, in addition to that, you can gain some relevant experience to enrich your CV and make some networking to increase your chances.

Wish you good luck,

Hi,

You will have to wait 1-2 years, but it really depends on the office, company, and your experience with them.

For example, if you were digned from McKinsey twice, I have to guess you're going to have to wait longer than normal.

I highly recommend you hire a coach next time around as it's likely you're missing something critical in your preparation!

When you approach this in 1-2 years, make sure you have not only prepared better for interviews, but have also networked significantly AND shown significant professional development on your resume.

Good luck!
