Data Scientist BCG X Final Round Interview

Hi Everyone,

I am preparing for a final round interview at BCG X for a Data Scientist role. I was told it's going to be 3 interviews (1 case each) and that I will be tested a little heavier on statistics since my last round we didn't get to dive deep enough into that during my case. I'm coming from a tech background, so don't have too much experience with consulting DS interviews, mostly only have done product DS interviews. My strategy last round was just following how I usually break down my problems (Business Problem, Clarify, Data Collection, Modeling, Evaluation & Recommendations). If anyone can offer any tips, greatly appreciated! I was reading some consulting resources my friend provided me, but it was targeted more at management consulting interviews and I felt like it didn't apply too well to the DS case studies.

hi!

your approach sounds solid already! for BCG X, your structure is a great starting point, just make sure to be very hypothesis-driven and clear in your communication. expect more probing on statistical reasoning (A/B testing pitfalls, causal inference, regression assumptions). be ready to explain models intuitively, and tie your insights back to business impact. also, don't over-index on technical depth—showing structured thinking and decision-making under ambiguity is key. feel free to reach out if you want to run through a practice case!

best, Alessa 😊

You should focus on combining structured, hypothesis-driven problem solving with deep statistical fluency, especially in areas like A/B testing, regression, and causal inference.

Hi there,

It sounds like what you are describing is the 'technical' interview.

Basically, what they will be testing there is whether you have the technical 'know-how' to perform like a top data scientist.

So if you've done the job before, it should be fine.

If you feel there is a gap and that concerns you, then I would recommend you reach out to DS friends and practice a few technical cases with them.

Best,
Cristian
