CV - previous work start date

Hi, I'm wondering whether consulting firms are strict on CV screening and date validation? My previous job's official start date was Jan 15th. However, I have started some works (conducting industry research, etc) based on my boss' request near year end. Is it okay if I put the job start date as December? Or, it must be the same month as the official document stated?

Hi there,

You need to match the date on record at the company. I'm sorry, but it sounds like their background check will reveal that you commenced employment on Jan 15 (i.e. when you started payroll). Please don't mess around with this - it's not worth the risk!

Wrong & misleading information on CV can cost you a job/job offer. It absolutely doesnt make sense to stretch dates here and there. For your own peace of mind, make sure all dates are official and when cross checked during background verfication, there wont be any inconsistencies. You can always explain in interview if asked.

Hey there,

There is 0 upside in extending your working period by 1 month, however, a lot of downsides if they conduct a background check. Just use Jan 15th, the official date.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

I agree with Adi and Ian – I would use the official dates. Indicating a different month may create issues during the background check.

Best,

Francesco
