Consulting Recruiting in Singapore: Structured Intake or Ad-Hoc Hiring?

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD life sciences candidate targeting Singapore offices (Q4 2026 to Q1 2027 start date). My target firms include MBB, LEK, Oliver Wyman, Simon-Kucher, Roland Berger, ZS, and IQVIA.

I’m trying to understand how recruiting typically works for Singapore offices.

1. Do these firms usually follow structured intake cycles, or is hiring mostly ad-hoc based on budget / staffing needs?

2. For my case, when would generally be the best time to apply?

Any insights from people familiar with Singapore consulting recruiting would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi there,

I can mainly speak to BCG (and broadly similar practices at other MBB firms in Singapore).

1. Structured cycles vs. ad-hoc hiring

For BCG SEA offices, hiring is generally more flexible rather than strictly tied to rigid intake cycles. Firms will run interview processes throughout the year. If you perform well and receive an offer, the start date is typically negotiable and decided with the candidate.

This should be broadly similar across the other MBB firms as well. I’m less certain about the practices at firms like LEK, OW, SK, RB, ZS, or IQVIA, as their timelines can vary more.

2. When is the best time to apply?

There isn’t really a universally “best” application window. A more important factor is whether you are fully prepared when you apply.

A few things you can do to improve your chances:

  • Tailoring your application and CV to consulting
  • Being case-ready before applying
  • Networking with people from the target firms, and getting referrals

In practice, the best time to apply is when you’re confident in your case interview preparation, rather than rushing the application and risking underperforming in interviews.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your preparation! Feel free to reach out if you need coaching help for your applications.
