Can I apply to MBB summer associate program through their website if I do not get shortlisted for on-campus recruiting?

Hello,

I am currently a first year MBA student. I wanted to ask if i can apply to MBB seperately through their website for some other location if they are already recruiting at my campus and I could not be shortlisted for an interview and if it is advisable to do so. Will my application be considered if I apply separately even though they are already recruiting from my campus? I will be applying to some different locations on their website through referrals from alumni but I am just doubtful if my application will be auto rejected since I could not get a shortlist on campus.

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, you should not get rejected automatically when applying through the website instead of campus recruiting.
  • Moreover, strong referrals from alumni can increase your chances of getting invited, even if you apply outside of campus recruiting, where the chances are typically lower.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

I recommend exploring opportunities with other firms, as campus placements tend to be the most effective way to secure an interview. The chances of getting a call back are significantly lower when applying directly through the company’s website.

Alternatively, you could focus on getting referrals, ideally from employees at a leadership level, to improve your chances of landing an interview.

Hey!

I would say: yes, you can apply separately to MBB for a different location through their website even if you weren't shortlisted for on-campus recruiting. It’s common for candidates to do this, especially when they have strong referrals from alumni or other contacts. Your application will not be automatically rejected just because you missed the shortlist at your campus. Each application is considered individually, and applying through a different location or office may give you another chance to be reviewed (depends on the company though)!

In short, go ahead and apply again — there’s nothing to lose!

Hi there,

You should be able apply again.

In order to maximize your chances to pass the screening make sure to:

  • Get a strong referral
  • Improve your resume in 2/4 areas (work experience, academia, leadership, time spent abroad)

All the best,

Florian
