Bcg first round

Hello,

After attending a recruiting event for experienced hires at BCG, I applied for consultant position. My cv was not selected for the position. I tried to get in touch with the HR recruiter met during the event, who was really nice and friendly, in order to understand the reasons of my cv rejection and the ways I could improve it for future submissions. She explained to me via phone and later via email, that my professional experience do not match their current business needs but she invited me to get back in touch with her in 2 months from now in order to check if the needs have evolved. Do you think there is a chance ? Thank you very much

Ex-McKinsey EM | I help aspiring consultants from atypical background to nail case interviews

Hi there,

It feels bad to get rejected and you've done great to understand the reason and aim at improvement for future submissions.

Hiring conditions are different by location and sometimes by role. There is still a chance there, but nothing is 100%. Without further information, it looks that you were applying for a particular practice and they did not have sufficient projects in the pipeline to hire new people.

Will the demand pick up? Will consultants quit and the firm will need people to fill the capacity gap? It's hard to predict.

To increase the chance to get an offer, it is advised to: 1) expand search criteria – do you consider other offices, or even other firms? 2) be prepared for the interview – it takes time.

Thank you very much for your answer. I was targeting the consultant PhD position actually. And during the recruiting event, I was indeed told that they had some consultants with PhD degree, but not so many.

Hi there,

This could be related to the current market and demand for new hires.

There is definitely a chance but I'd argue chances are better closer towards 2025.

Use the time to work on your resume in several areas, especially work-related topics more closely aligned with consulting, e.g., leadership experience, strategy work.

Cheers,

Florian
