My second round is online but during the interview I will have two "real-life-interviews" each 15 minutes long. How can I prepare for that and what exactly is that?
BCG 2nd Round - Real Life Interview
Hi Marisa, great question!
The “Real Life” format at BCG is designed to simulate short, practical conversations you might have as a consultant. Each is about 15 minutes and focuses less on case-solving and more on how you think and communicate in realistic situations.
A four key points I suggest to keep in mind:
- Expect everyday consulting scenarios – for example, clarifying a client’s vague request, prioritizing under time pressure, or explaining a recommendation to a senior audience.
- It’s not about the perfect answer – they want to see your thought process, ability to stay calm, and structure your response on the spot.
- Show personality and creativity – the official guidance emphasizes this, so don’t over-script.
- Preparation tip: Practice short role plays with a friend or coach where you ask clarifying questions and outline your approach in 1–2 minutes. This builds confidence for unexpected prompts.
Based on my experience, the biggest success factor is balancing structure with natural conversation. Best of luck!
Hey Marisa!
The "real-life-interviews" at BCG are basically short role plays. They want to see how you react in realistic, often unexpected business situations, so it’s less about the “right answer” and more about your thought process, communication, and interpersonal skills. The best way to prepare is to do role plays with a friend or coach, practicing staying calm, asking clarifying questions, and structuring your response on the spot. It’s actually fun once you get into it! Let me know if you want to practice, I run sessions for that.
best, Alessa :)
Hi Marisa,
I would recommend that you clarify what that means directly with the recruiter.
The format appears to be rather new, so it's best not to speculate.
Presumably, this could either be a role play or it could be a set of situation questions.
Either way, I can't see any good reason why it wouldn't be worth clarifying it all in advance so you can tailor your preparation accordingly.
Best,
Cristian
