Hi coaches! I was wondering if MBB firms, especially Bain, does background check before giving out the offer letter? I received a verbal offer and a written follow-up that I should receive the offer letter on Monday, so just checking if there is anything I should be worried about. I'm nervous of the possibility that I won't get the offer letter on Monday as they promised.
Bain Verbal to Written Offer - Internship

Hi There,
Congrats on the offer! Generally, they do not do an official background check until you get to onboarding. Usually, official background checks require a social security number to deep dive into your personal history, so if you haven't given that to Bain then they can't really do one. With that being said, a Partner or HR in theory could check out your LinkedIn and/or Google you if they are curious to see if anything pops up.
What I would ask you, "is there something specific making you worried?" If its something like your social media presence; I would recommend making sure its professional just like for any job/internship. If it is something else, it could be better to be up front about it since it could come up during onboarding.
Hope this helps and congrats again!

Hello there,
If you don’t have nothing controversially about in regards of your background, social media presence and CV accuracy, there is no need to worry. Bain is a reputable company, they will honor their verbal offer.
Best,
Mari

Hi there,
Congratulations on the offer.
The background check usually happens after the written offer (only when you have accepted the offer, and before your actual start date). Don't think you need to be concerned now, Bain would honor their verbal offer.
Best,
Emily

They do background checks (at least in most offices).
But it's a formality and nothing to worry about, unless you actually misrepresented in some way your background experience.
Otherwise, even if they are a bit delayed with sending you the formal offer, it's not because of the background checks (could be anything admin-related).
Hope you hear from them soon! And congrats for the offer!
Best,
Cristian

Hi there,
You don’t need to worry. Once Bain has extended a verbal offer, the written contract usually follows as a formality. Background checks are typically done after you sign, not before issuing the official letter. Sometimes there can be minor administrative delays, but if you’ve already received a verbal confirmation, you can be confident the offer will come through.
Best,
Evelina
