Bain TestGorilla

Hey everyone,

I just got invited to take the testGorilla for Bain application as Associate Consultant at Paris Office.

There are 3 modules : critical thinking, numerical reasoning and working with data.

Was wondering if you have any tips or resources to advise for prep ?

Thanks a lot 🙏

Congrats, Reda!

You'll find lots of examples of such tests online. And I do encourage you to practice as much as possible, as there genuinely is a correlation between how much you practice and how well you perform on these screening tests.

When you run out of materials, go for similar format tests. Effectively, they all test pretty much the same thing.

Make sure that you also have a pre-test strategy - how much time you're planning on taking for every segment, whether 'mistakes' count as negative points, etc...

Sharing here a material with the most common formulas that come up in consulting prep:

The good news is that it is possible to prepare those three modules .

If I were in your shoes, I would focus on:

  • Numerical reasoning: percentages, growth rates, ratios, weighted averages, basic business math. Speed matters, but accuracy matters more.
  • Working with data: interpreting charts, tables, exhibits, identifying trends, comparing alternatives, and extracting the key message quickly.
  • Critical thinking: understanding assumptions, evaluating arguments, identifying conclusions supported by the evidence, and spotting logical flaws.

A common mistake is to treat these as IQ tests. They're actually much closer to the type of reasoning you'll use in consulting.

My advice:

  • practice under time pressure
  • get comfortable with business charts and exhibits
  • avoid overcomplicated calculations (there is usually a simpler route)
  • if you're stuck, move on rather than burning too much time on one question

For resources, SHL-style numerical and critical reasoning tests are generally good practice, even if the format isn't identical.

And one final point: don't neglect the "working with data" section. In my experience, many candidates focus heavily on math and underestimate how important rapid exhibit interpretation is in consulting recruiting. That's often where strong candidates differentiate themselves. Good luck!

Congrats on the Bain invite. Here's how I'd prep for each of the three modules.

Critical thinking. This one tests your logic and how you read arguments. Best prep is GMAT critical reasoning questions and free LSAT logical reasoning samples. Read each question slowly, the right answer often comes down to small wording differences.

Numerical reasoning. Mostly percentages, ratios, growth rates, and reading data. GMAT or GRE quant practice is really useful here, practice Aptitude Tests Always use a timer, the test moves fast.

Working with data. This one tests how well you read charts and tables and pull out the main point. Grab some charts from McKinsey, BCG, or Bain reports online and give yourself 60 seconds to find the key takeaway in each.

Test your internet and setup an hour before. Keep scratch paper and a pen ready. Pace yourself, don't get stuck on one question, just mark it and come back later.

Sleep well the night before.

Good luck.
