Applying to Mckinsey

Hi, I have two questions:

1) What's the difference between a Business Analyst and Consulting Analyst at McKinsey? which position do I apply to if I have just graduated my undergrad?

2) I have recently applied for the consulting fellowship program at Mckinsey but failed the PSG, am I penalised and wait for 1 year to reapply or will I still be able to apply for a full time position?

Hey there,

1. One issue in McKinsey (that they are working on now I believe) is that the same roles have different names across countries, which can be quite confusing when you are applying but also when working there and trying to staff a team…

I would believe they are the same but it's worth reading the requirements for the roles, which would state what degree and experience are needed to apply.

Alternatively, reach out to HR!

2. The Imbellus ban period is 12 months for internships and 24 months for full-time hires

Cheers,

Florian

Hello,

To answer your questions:

1) I believe this is the same position, just referred to by different names in different office locations. In North America and Europe they refer to Business Analysts while in Asian offices they refer to Consulting Analysts. If you just graduated from undergrad, this is the position you should be applying for.

2) I would reach out to a recruiter and ask.

Hi there,

I actually haven't heard of Consulting Analyst, but it might be a nuance across offices. Do you have a link to the specific role postings? This would help.

In regards to which position to apply to, you want to apply to the entry level position (normally Business Analyst). When in doubt, a conversation with HR never hurts!

Hi there, I can answer for #2 - best way to check and confirm that is to ask the HR/Recruiter on when you can reapply.
