Applying to another role at BCG after receiving rejection

Hi so I got rejected from BCG AC position a couple of months ago and received one year ban period. Recently I learned about BCG inverto and got interested in it, can I still apply to AC role at BCG Inverto? Furthermore, should I create a new account instead for the application?

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the rejection from BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, contrary to what other coaches have said, considering that Inverto is part of BCG, I doubt you'd be able to apply for a very similar role during the ban period. Either way, you should clarify with the recruiter, but be prepared to share a strong rationale for why Inverto is equally or even more interesting than BCG - you'd not be the first applicant trying to get into BCG through the back door of Inverto.
  • Moreover, I would strongly advise you not to create a new account. It's one system and recruiters might see it as dishonest if you try to reset your profile. It’s better to show consistency and transparency, especially if you explain your renewed interest.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting firm.

Hi,

I believe you can apply to BCG Inverto even if you were rejected from the main BCG Associate (AC) process, since Inverto is a specialized subsidiary focused on procurement and operations. The one-year ban typically applies only to the same recruiting track within BCG, not to separate business units like Inverto. It’s definitely worth checking, and there’s a good chance you can still apply, even though policies can vary by office.

I wouldn't create a new account; using the same one helps them see your full history transparently.

Hi Margot thanks for the answer. In my country, BCG has a business analyst role as well which I didn’t apply. Do you think I can apply to both Business Analyst and Inverto?

Hi, no because it would be a different role but within BCG --> ban applies

I would clarify first with the recruiter whether you can apply to Inverto. Theoretically, I think you should, but it's best to validate it with them. You can also explain in that message to them why you think this makes sense and why Inverto would be an even better fit.

Trying to create a new account is akin to pretending you're a different person to circumvent the formal process, which I wouldn't recommend.

Cristian

As others have stated you should be fine to apply to Inverto. However, I would not suggest creating a new account or trying to hide that BCG rejected you. Eventually it will come to light and if they suspect you are trying to hide information that will not be a good look.

Hi there,

My sense is that you can still apply to BCG INVERTO even if you were previously rejected from the AC role as it’s considered a different practice. So you shouldn't have to create a new account, while tailoring your application to highlight why you’re a strong fit for INVERTO specifically. Best is to clarify with HR.

Probably best to check with HR.

But i think the bigger question is, do you really want to apply to Inverto? It's really quite a different experience and trajectory, if you ask me.

Have a think about it before applying just for the sake of it.

Hi,

from my experience in BCG (DACH & Nordics) and working with Inverto, you should be able to apply. While it is part of BCG, it is not BCG (different profiles, different demands, etc.)

Best,
Lukas
