Advice needed: Internship organisation design and change

Hi everyone,

I have recently accepted an internship offer at an international industrial service company to work as an internal consultant in organisation design ans change.  Do you think this experience will be a stopped to get into a generalist role afterwards in strategy consulting, or even industry roles ? I have working 3 years in production within the aero industry beforehand and I wanted to get into consulting so I did a master in strategy and this internship will be to validate my master.  I accepted this offer because it had great exposure senior execs ans external consultants moreover there was a great learning experience from ex strategy consulting directors.

I really need to be reassured of my choice before I confirm and fully sign since this is a HR and strategy related role.

Flip your approach and pursue this internship with the aim to learn & give your best. Enjoy the experience and you will produce great results. If you approach it with the anxiety of wanting A or B to happen in future, you will miss the opportunity at hand. So many people make this mistake!

You have invested the time & money to do the masters and now have this internship in hand. Unless you have other options to work directly in Strat Consulting domain, dont worry too much and plunge it.

Practice a good story to explain your career journey so far i.e  engineering/production background-> Masters-> Org. Design Internship. What functional and consulting skills have your learnt & demonstrated? Why do you want to move into generalist role?

With a good CV & interview performance the next career move should not a huge problem.

Hi Adi, Thank you very much for taking the time to get back to my request. You are absolutely right I will do my best to learn as much as possible. I have received the news that I have a first round for Strat Consulting firm in 1.5 months time from now. I will continue practicing for cases and my fit in the hope to secure this new firm before the end of my internship :)

Hi there,

I honestly think this is a good experience to add to your resume (yes, for consulting purposes). Organisational design & change is a big piece of strategy work, especially if it's paired with digital transformation.

For the internship, try to get as much exposure as you can in larger projects, big $$ amounts, exec/leadership exposure, analytics, and IT/Digital related topics (You don't need all of these...just aim for some combo!)

Furthermore, since this is a short-term internship, you may as well take this on...it can only help build your resume and it doesn't lock in into anything.

Enjoy and good luck :)

Hi, I think this experience can be good in building an interesting cv for consulting. Otherwise, if it's your 1st career goal I would recommend sending applications to strategy consulting now

Best,
Antonello

Hi Antonello, thank you very much for getting back to me. I will continue doing so - I have a first round with ADL at the end of next months so I will give everything to secure a position with them.

Exploring innovative solutions for video content management, it's intriguing to consider how technologies from seemingly unrelated fields could enhance our systems. For instance, blockchain technology, as discussed in a Limeup blog https://limeup.io/blog/blockchain-real-estate-companies/ , showcases groundbreaking applications in real estate, emphasizing security, transparency, and efficiency. These principles could be transformative if applied to digital content control, suggesting a future where content management systems benefit from blockchain's decentralized and secure nature. This perspective might inspire us to think outside the box in developing more robust, secure, and user-friendly content control solutions for platforms like BrightSign.

From my point of view there are no circumstances that could prevent you from starting the internship. Try not overthink this and just take it. The result won’t wait too long:
You will get the priceless experience at the new place.
Fulfil your CV and cover letter.
And for sure with the good documents the new job opportunity won’t wait you too long.
