Sending resumes to VCs and then not hearing back

Hello,

Has anyone encountered a problem where VCs you meet over LinkedIn ask you to send them their resumes over email and then you never hear back? They seem rather interested in your profile and say they are passing it on to the HR but radio silence. Is it a polite / circuitous was to say'fuck off'?

This is very common and usually not a negative signal.

When someone at a VC asks for your resume, they often just forward it internally. After that, they usually have little control, and if there’s no immediate hiring need, your profile simply doesn’t get actioned.

VC recruiting is also quite unstructured. Firms hire opportunistically, so many profiles get parked rather than actively rejected. Unless someone is strongly advocating for you, a referral is often just a soft signal.

I wouldn’t read it as “no,” but rather as low urgency. A better approach is to follow up once with something relevant, for example a short take on a deal they’ve done. That helps you stand out and keeps the conversation going.

Thank you.

Is it advisable to ask again should they advertise for a new role? By then, they have the resume. So should the expectation be that they would reach out?

Seconding what Simon posted. In addition to that, most VCs are struggling at the moment given fluctuation/downward correction of Software Assets. I would not be expecting strong recruiting in that space (if software only VC). MedTech, industrial tech focused might be different but still hard.

Hiring or not hiring, if you can ask a candidate for the resume citing the reason a s a position to be opening some time soon I am given now to conclude is a bait. It doesn't add VCs acting at reputable firms in the UK behaving this way.
