Green electricity for Microsoft 💚 The technology company will purchase clean electricity from two new RWE onshore wind farms in Texas. Two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which run over a period of 15 years, have been signed. The onshore wind projects have a combined capacity of 446 megawatts. We are excited that our onshore wind farms will support Microsoft’s goal of achieving 100% coverage of electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2025.

Diving into biodiversity! 🪸 We're pioneering the use of artificial reefs at our Kårehamn offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. In collaboration with Linnaeus University and Baltic Offshore Kalmar AB, we want to evaluate how environmentally friendly reef cubes® support marine biodiversity. With the 180 cubes provided by ARC Marine® and installed at our 48 MW wind farm, we're studying their impact on mussels, algae and fish species. The pilot study will continue until 2026.

We’ve just installed the 1st offshore turbine foundation at our flagship 1.4 GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. This is a huge milestone as we kick off the offshore construction phase within the wind farm's array. By 2026, when we expect to complete the project, Sofia will generate enough green electricity to power around 1.2 million typical UK homes. That's a massive step forward for renewable energy in the UK! It underscores our commitment to advancing renewable energy and signals a new chapter for the Port of Tyne, which has undergone a significant upgrade in order to support this work.

RWE reposted this
RWE has been named a European Climate Leader 2024. I am very proud that the Financial Times has ranked RWE 5th out of all 36 listed energy companies for our progress in cutting carbon emissions. This is great confirmation and recognition of our company transformation. In the backdrop of the ongoing energy crisis, we have helped ensure security of supply whilst steadfastly continuing to follow and implement our Growing Green Strategy and to decarbonise our portfolio. To continue along this decarbonisation path, it is, however, vital that the necessary investments are made. Only by switching on sustainable electricity production capacities, it is possible to reduce existing capacities and thus greenhouse gas emissions. That calls for the rapid expansion of renewables, grids and flexible capacities to make our energy systems sustainable and secure. For the energy transition to succeed, it must happen holistically. I wish to congratulate and thank the entire #TeamRWE for what is your shared success. We are certainly making headway and we will keep on being a pacemaker for this transition.

We're pleased to announce that Ocean Infinity has been selected by RWE and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) to carry out groundbreaking 3D Ultra High Resolution seismic geophysical surveys at the Dogger Bank South (DBS) West offshore wind farm. Starting in early June 2024, this skilled team aboard the 'Deep Helder' will explore the seabed at each proposed wind turbine foundation site. This month-long survey aims to provide detailed insights into the subsea conditions, essential for ensuring the stability and effectiveness of future turbine installations.
