I am currently in the early stage of recruitment for a role in Europe, I have identified another role that is a better fit (different office). I am considering withdrawing from the current process I am going through to apply for the role with a better fit.

I perceive there could be an issue with the cooling-off period required to apply for a new role at the same level. Would the cooling-off period still apply to me even though I am the one that instigated the withdrawal?

What stage are you in? If you haven't been contacted yet and haven't interviewed yet, there's really no issue. Withdraw and apply elsewhere.

Even if you already got rejected at the CV screening stage, there's no cooling off period for applying to another office. This is different if you've already had interviews and got rejected then (however, even in that case you may not necessarily banned for a different role in a different region - requires a bit of explanation though).

If you have an HR contact, get in touch with them and discuss your thoughts. However, don't create confusion with the recruiter. Rather, make sure you have everything well thought through and convey a compelling case!

Reach out to HR to handle that process. That way you're sure you won't have a problem there.

Most importantly, you may be able to keep the communication lines open if the other role doesn't work out.

Hi there,

You need to talk to HR here! 

Ideally, speak to them over the phone/video to minimize misunderstandings.

Just be really clear with them about your goals/preferences. Make sure you're accommodating as well, and flag that you'd still be happy with the current role (else you risk them pulling you out of the process entirely if your new target role isn't available).

Hello!

Best would be to touch base with HR to clarify next steps, provided it´s in the same country and you have access to them (email, phone…) or literally just showing up in the office, where they sit always
