What's the probability of passing a MBB final round? Is it higher than the first round? (I know it varies a lot but just want to get a sense)

What's the probability of passing a MBB final round?
Overview of answers
Hi there,
The general rule is that if you've passed the first round you “have what it takes”. The company has essentially said “We think this person is a good fit, but we just need to do our due diligence”.
I'd say the odds of passing the first round are generally lower than passing the final, but it does depend on company, office, and time period.
That said, it literally doesn't matter! Focus on doing the best you can be and worry about the things you can control (i.e. your performance) :)
Good luck!
You are in the final stages, so obviously things are looking good.
But why bother with all this speculation, probability etc? Just focus on giving your best, enjoy the interview and dont worry about the outcome. Let things happen.
All the best.
For McKinsey, the ratios are actually quite similar. Yes, most candidates who reach final round are good enough to do the job but they also have the luxury of being selective!
Much higher, as most people don't pass the first round. If you make it to the final round its because you most likely know to to “crack” case interviews. Last round is mostly about FIT (remember that fit is also assessed during the case interview part) and long term potential.
Hi,
This is something that you shouldn't be focusing on - but happy to share some rough statistics based on my time as an interviewer at BCG. I too was very curious about this. Drop me a dm.
Final rounds should statistically have a higher selection rate since a major chunk of candidates would be already rejected in the first rounds.
Again, this is only speculation - however it should not impact your preparation in any manner since selection is generally not done in a relative manner.
