Next week I have an interview with a MD & Partner at BCG Gamma. I haven't submitted a formal application, I spoke to a recruiter who booked this interview for me after having a look at my CV. What should I expect? a case? fit? and how should I prepare?

Hi there,

As mentioned by Allen, you can reach out to HR to verify if you are indeed going to get fit and case, or if the interview involves fit only or any other variation.

I helped a few people applying at BCG Gamma. They got fit questions and cases in the interview. However, cases were not always the standard ones. Besides the traditional case questions, there were also technical ones including:

  • Explain elements of a regression you would perform
  • How to build a data science model for XYZ
  • How would you communicate insights related a db analysis to the client

If you need more information please feel free to PM me, I can help to simulate the traditional case part and share questions related to the technical part.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

First, I would double-check with HR on exactly to expect.

Second, what to expect depends on your level. If you are interviewing for a higher-level role, you should expect more "unstructured" casing, brainstorming questions, and deeper-level of your technical capabilitiies.

At the lower levels you should really expect and be prepared for anything. You should 100% be prepared for fit. You should be ready for a formal case. And, you should be ready to demonstrate your technical skills on a SQL, Python, R, etc. level (i.e. a formal exercise).

Good luck!

+ to ask the recruiter. Won't cost you much to ask and you'll know for sure.

Hi, I recommend asking clearly to HR without worrying about bothering them. They are there to help. Sometimes it'll be a standard business case, others a more technical interview

best,

Hello,

Interview steps for BCG Gamma are quite complex and different from standard process (you will have business cases anyway, so start preparing them if you haven't already). More over, they can vary according to your cv. I would suggest to ask directly the HR for what to prepare for the first interview and for a clear overview of the process.

Best,
Luca

Why not just ask the recruiter? The recruiter wants you to do well so will tell you how to prepare.

Hello!

Congrats, fast track to interview!

I would 100% check with HR this question, is precisely what they should help with.

I would say that most likely is a case + FIT interview, the usual, for which you have 2 main workstreams ahead:

1. FIT INTERVIEW

The "Integrated FIT guide for MBB" has been recently published in PrepLounge´s shop (https://www.preplounge.com/en/shop/tests-2/integrated-fit-guide-for-mbb-34)

It provides an end-to-end preparation for all three MBB interviews, tackling each firms particularities and combining key concepts review and a hands-on methodology. Following the book, the candidate will prepare his/her stories by practicing with over 50 real questions and leveraging special frameworks and worksheets that guide step-by-step, developed by the author and her experience as a Master in Management professor and coach. Finally, as further guidance, the guide encompasses over 20 examples from real candidates.

You can see plenty of reviews from candidates who purchased it already.

Furthermore, you can find 2 free cases in the PrepL case regarding FIT preparation:

Intro and CV questions > https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/introduction-and-cv-questions-fit-interview-preparation-200

Motivational questions > https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/motivational-questions-fit-interview-preparation-201

Behavioural questions (ENTREPRENEURIAL DRIVE) >https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/fit-interview/intermediate/behavioral-questions-entrepreneurial-drive-fit-interview-preparation-211

Feel free to PM me for disccount codes, since we still have some left from the launch! :)

2. BUSINESS CASE

You don´t have any more time to the classics of Viktor Cheng, "Case in point" book, etc. You need to get hands on asap:

1. Practice cases with partners asap, as many as you can do.Find experienced partners who can provide a good feedback

2. Practice your math skills, both in your cases and with ad hoc exercisess, such as:

1. Multiplying double digit numbers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ndkkPZYJHo

2. Leveraging math tools (Mimir math for iOS), Math tool on Viktor Cheng website to practice

Furthermore, you should practice as much as you can, and ensure that you cover:

1. Profitability cases- basic profitability framework.

2. Idea generation cases: for any specif issue

3. Growth cases: market penetration, new product launch, product mix change, etc.

4. Pricing cases

5. M&A cases

6. Valuation cases

7. Value chain cases

Given you are under this much time contraint, consider working with a coach to foster speed and ensure you have a tailored plan to be very targeted. PM me interested!

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Its worth asking this question to their HR team, but likely a combination of fit and technical questions around how you would use analytics in the course of a project.
