What would be your tips for preparing for a new job in that timeframe? From any point of view - mentally, skills etc.?

I bought an excel course even though I'm solid in it because I believe it is useful everywhere and you can always be more efficient in it...

2. What would be your top tips for adapting fast and doing well in the first few weeks / months?

Thanks !

What are the different expectations for graduate vs. MBA candidates?

case study differences graduate Interview MBA MBB
Most recent answer on Nov 20, 2020

I will be applying for graduate schemes but have been practicing largely with more qualified candidates and benchmarking myself against them. Are there things that are expected of an MBA candidate but not entry-level graduate schemes? If so, what are they?

A couple differences: An MBA applicant will be expected to have better business acumen/terminology, and so are also more likely to get cases with more advanced concepts (e.g. NPV/IRR). On the other hand, a History u ... (read entire answer)

analyst Big 4 consulting graduate MBB T2
Most recent answer on May 03, 2020

Hi,

I'm hoping to apply to MBB/T2 and I have 1 year experience in a Big 4 Consulting graduate program. Would I apply for through the final-year student applications or is there another process?

As well, when would be the best time of year to apply (Australia)?

Cheers :)

Hi there, Since you already have 1 year experience, you should have already graduated? If that's the case then I don't think you would apply through student application any more. You could apply via the off campus ch ... (read entire answer)

    London entry-level position immediate start

associate associate consultant business analyst graduate Job offer London recent graduate start-date strategy consulting
Most recent answer on Dec 06, 2019

Good evening,

Upon receiving an offer for a job at a strategy consulting firm in London (think MBB + the other top ones), which happens around this time of the year, the default start date is the following September, with many people also opting for later start dates, e.g. the following March.

However, I was wondering if it is possible to actually start immediately (or one or two months after the offer), for those that are not in university but are already working somewhere else (or unemployed) so are available right away? Does anyone know of any such cases? Or are they very strict in separating people in their respective graduate intakes?

Thanks a lot for anyone taking time to answer, really appreciated.

Congrats in 1st place for your offer! The starting dates are normally configured like this to constitute "classes" of Business Analysts and Associates, that start all together, have performance evaluations at the sam ... (read entire answer)

Applying to MBB International Offices when coming from a UK University

Application Bain BCG deadline graduate McKinsey
Most recent answer on Oct 16, 2019

Hi there,

I am currently studying in a UK university and would like to apply for a graduate position in MBB. In this situation, the milkround is said to be the ultimate deadline. I may thus apply within the next few days.

However, the London office is not part of my preferences. I am considering applying after the milkround to continue preparing and give me the best chance to perform.

My question is: Is it possible, coming from a UK university, to apply after the deadline?

Thank you all

Hi Anonymous, if you are referring to applying to a country different from the UK: sure, you can apply after the UK deadlines so far that your target country has deadlines after that. What matters is the deadline of t ... (read entire answer)

Is a small employment gap after graduation negatively perceived by employers in consulting?

    employment gap graduate recent graduate
Most recent answer on Aug 20, 2019

Hi,

I'm graduating soon but I still have to send out applications and finish preparing. I know that after applications are sent it can pass several months before one gets a response so in that period I could keep practicing. Still, I wouldn't have a job after graduating and most probably would show up at the interview with a small employment gap in my CV. Is it perceived negatively or I shouldn't worry too much? Should I postpone the graduation day? Or would it be better to graduate and find a job to fill the gap while keep preparing?

Hi, It's fine if you have this gap: You might get a response faster The people who will review your application will see the current version on the moment of sending it Your interviewers will not care about th ... (read entire answer)

    Differentiation depending on degree?

    graduate
Most recent answer on Jun 14, 2019

Consulting firms hire a lot of students. Something I have been wondering about is whether or not consulting firms will differentiate in the type of question asked depending on the degree of the candidate. I imagine that economics students will have an easier time approaching business-focussed case studies compared to an engineer. So the question is, does the interviewer consider the degree of the candidate before preparing the interview?

Hi Eduardas, Each interviewer comes in with the case they're going to give. They've prepared this already and it has already been vetted/approved. They have prepared this based on their experiences not yours :)

Can/should I apply to strategy consulting firms before graduation?

    Application graduate
Recent activity on Aug 17, 2018

Hi all,

I am looking to apply for positions in strategy consulting. I finished my thesis and my supervisors are looking into it for a grade. At the moment I have a relatively good average grade (converted to American GPA: masters 4, bachelors 3.5), and I do not think that my thesis grade will lower my grade. At what point is it usefull to actually apply? As far as I see there is three options:

- Now, tell them my current average grade,

- After I got my grade for my thesis comfirmed,

- After I officially graduated (can take some time).

My fellow students aiming for other jobs usually start applying at my current stage, since the average grade is not the most important thing. However, since I heard it is very important in strategy consulting, I am wondering if it would be better for me to wait with sending out applications until everything is official.

Hi, The grade should not be something to prevent you from applying and you can easily point out your current average grade. They will check the grades if you get the offer, but no one will be calculating the real aver ... (read entire answer)

Hi everyone,

I graduated almost 6 months ago (dec 2017) and I'm still trying to get a job in consulting. I applied before and after graduating, but unsuccessfully. Therefore, I accepted a job offer as a sales analyst (entry level).

Despite having a job already, I'm still applying for a role in consulting but I am not sure whether I am still attractive or not for a consulting firm. I really hope to land some interviews in September, because if not I feel like it will become more and more difficult to enter with time passing bye.

How often do firms accept job applications from graduates?

    application process graduate graduate program
Recent activity on Nov 03, 2017

Hi,

I was wondering when is the recruitement period - and subsequently how often can a graduate apply - for graduate programmes or positions to any of the consulting companies. For example, the application deadlines for graduate programmes for their London offices ended just last week or it's about to end for a few of them (Autumn term). But is there a new recruitement in the springtime?

Thanks

Hi Costas, that depends on the country you are applying to. In Italy for example there is rolling admission, while in UK as you mentioned you have specific deadlines, normally concentrated in the period September – De ... (read entire answer)

Hi everyone!

I was wondering what starting salary I can or should expect as a phd graduate at different types of consultancies (MBB, top tier)? How does it differ for MBA or Master graduates?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on the firm. MBB hire PhDs/JDs/MDs at post-MBA level so the salary is same as MBA graduates. They are hired at McK at associate level and at BCG and Bain at consultant level. The salary depends largely on ... (read entire answer)
