Need opinion regarding career choice (Startup/Tech or Boutique Firm)

    Bain BCG Mck RolandBerger
Most recent answer on Feb 21, 2021

Hi!

I want to ask some opinion regarding the experts in here. I worked as a financial due diligence advisor in Big4 until last year. Due to some circumstances, I already resigned but I am planning to shift my career into consulting (I aiming for 2nd tier right now, but if I can join MBB it would be great). I graduated in 2019 from a non-target school, but I can say I have great academic performance. Right now I am planning to go switch my career, and I had several offers right now:

1) Corporate Strategy in startup companies (no brand names here, but seems like the learning is interesting)

2) Growth operations in startup (big brand names in a startup)

3) Consultant in the boutique (one of the leaders for local management consulting firms in my country) consulting.

4) Intern in MBB again (before I worked in Big4, I was an intern in there for like 4months, contract-based)

Which one that you guys preferred that help me to enter consulting? I am thinking to apply & start networking in Jul/Aug (because in my country the registration already closed, and it's really hard to join directly from the website, etc, so I need some time to do some networking regarding the referral)

Thank you in advance!

Hello! In a nutshell, the option that is the clear winner here is interning with MBB. No doubts. Among the rest, you should choose according to other factors, more detailed: Scope of work Exposure Resposabi ... (read entire answer)

Help with Quantitative Question on Selling Price

    Bain BCG Mck quantitative RolandBerger
Most recent answer on Dec 30, 2020

Hello,

Does anyone please have any tips on how to solve this problem:

A cake shop has to drop the selling price of a type of cake by $3.6 per unit because the wheat flour cost has decreased 18% or by $0.4 per unit sold. The new flour cost now accounts for 35% of the total selling price. Before the selling price changed, what percent of the total price had flour cost constituted?

Thank you

Hey! Seems like you know a couple of things from the question: 1. You know that 18% of the original cost $0.4 2. You know that the Cost - 0.4 = 35% of P + 3.6 Between these two facts you have enough to solve the ... (read entire answer)

Should I stop applying, study more, or wait?

Bain BCG getting interview getting stuck Mck RolandBerger
Most recent answer on Nov 24, 2020

I am struggling to get an interview from a consulting firm. I applied to McKinsey, Bain, KPMG, Oliver Wyman, PwC, and many other firms. Unfortunately, I was rejected by all of them.

A recruiter from KPMG called me after I sent my application. she told me that the position I applied for is not suitable for me (Analyst) because I already have some experience. She recommended that I apply for risk management related positions.

I graduated from the business school 18 months ago. I started working full time while I was still studying in the business school and continued working after the graduation. I now have 2 years of experience working in my current position (risk monitoring, fraud, and customer experience). Before the business school, I completed few internships and short assignments (1 year as market researcher and few months as a consultant).

I feel somehow that I am not a fresh graduate to be considered for entry level positions and not experienced enough to be considered for positions requiring experience. Should I continue applying but only to risk advisory positions? Or should I study more and complete a risk management certificate or training? Or should I just wait for a year or so and then start applying again?

I have a master’s degree in management from a target school with a focus on strategy.

    Informational Interview Winning Strategy/Diversity/Research

Most recent answer on Oct 19, 2020

I am based in the South of Europe, I am an Ivy League grad student and I have a very unconventional qualitative profile. I have been studying cases for a while now. For me it has been super hard to find consultants who want to talk to me through cold emails. The ones who want to talk don't help me to do the inteview at the end, they find 1000 reasons why (covid, my profile, the lack of ...). Is there any hint to share about how to secure an interview when I finally get in touch with them? Is this a normal trend? I have always thought that my uncoventional profile was a strenght but I am starting to think that their focus on diversity it's just marketing, they sadly just hire engineers, MBAs and ITs. Is my insight correct? They always suggest to apply in UK and America, because these countries are more open minded towards qualitative backgrounds. Is it true? But then, are these more competitive as well? Is there any suggestion on how to geolocalize my research? Thanks!

First round BCG interview. Are they expecting perfection? Was mine just Just bad luck?

I didn't pass the first round. I did the first case so so (I did 2 mistakes and didn't finish it but I demonstated how to solve it), the second well (at least the interviewer said so). The two cases had difficult graphs and rare case situations like no profits). I felt they judged me extremely harsh and they didn't give me the chance to prove it in the second round. I have been hearing from other people who performed exactly the same way, BCGers treated them VERY DIFFERENTLY (they personally called on the phone the candidate, forgave severe mistakes during interview and gave feedbacks etc). Why Is it that random? Thanks!
