Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I got the rejection email from one of the MBB firms. My CV had been shortlisted and I gave online test.

While giving the online test, the got stuck due to internet issues and when it came back I rushed and complete the test in a hurry so naturally my accuracy got affected as I wanted to complete the test as soon as possible as I had already lost so much time.

I explained this to the HR and she told me that they will take this into consideration but not sure that if  they really took this into consideration or not as I had given the online assessment 2 months ago and yesterday got the rejection email. I do not think so of she remembers this.

I was referred by a partner. Actually I was referred by two partners and third partner was about to refer me but I told him not to as two partners had  already referred me.

I was invited in all the events (invite only) and built great network after attending those events.

This is huge disappointment for me. I had worked very hard, started networking very early in order to secure referral, attented all events, asked interesting questions during the event. In short all things went perfect except the test.

Should I ask HR to resend me the test or to resolve this issue with something else like taking live test on Zoom or something like that?

I had worked really hard in terms of everything, events, network, preparation etc. I cannot wait another 12 months to reapply just because of my poor internet connection.

Is sending an email to partner worth it? Do they have some power to overturn the decision? Just to let you know this partner is involved in recruiting process and was very impressed with my CV.

HR clearly mentioned that I did not meet the threshold that is why I was not invited for the next stage in her email. Generally they gave you generic response but I asked partner to ping HR as I was not getting reply from HR for a long time so she told me the exact reason.

Should I email partner?

Hi there,

I'm really sorry but it seems the decision has been made. I'm truly truly sorry to hear about this situation - unfortunately that is life :/ (I got the flu during my BCG interviews for example).

My advice would be to not risk your relationship with this Partner by being insistent. I would recommend waiting for the probation period to end, and leverging the Partner contact for another referal then.

My understanding from your text (a bit confusing) is that you already told the Partner about your internet and asked them to check with HR, and that HR is already aware of your internet issue and said they took it into account.

Last thing: Please please please get a hotspot for your phone! This is a critical backup to have in today's world, especially in consulting!
