Prep for BCG Fit-interview for an experienced McKinsey applicant

Khurram Zaveri

Hello,

I am a current McKinsey consultant invited to interview with BCG in New York. Couple of reasons why I am thinking of moving are 1) Location -> BCG New York office and 2) Type of work: I am part of McKinsey BTO, focused on Pharma and this a generalist position at BCG.

My question is geared more towards the Fit. How do I best learn more about the culture at BCG? Including what makes it unique (or better) than McKinsey.

Also, how do I best prepare for BCG style, interviewee led, cases.

Thank you!

Hi Khurram! There are indeed an array of important points you should be aware of when tempting to do the switch. I have worked over sevewral years for both BCG and McKisney, and I actually have made exactly the same move (just the other way round) a couple of years ago. Let me know if you want to chat in detail. :)

Cheers, Sidi

Current partner @ Andreessen Horowitz (VC firm). Ex-Mckinsey, ex- strategy guy at Google.

Cabveat emptor. BCG is more data-driven, McKinsey is more soft-skill oriented. McK also has a stronger reputation in government, OnG, etc. Overall brand is better @ McKinsey. BCG is less stuffy overall and has nicer culture -- glassdoor.com is a good unbiased source. Easiest way to know better is to talk to a few BCG consultants.

Besides being great at case cracking you also need to convince the interviewer that your personality fits into a case team or in the company as a whole
