Hi everyone.
I was wondering if non-consulting firms would sponsor their employees for an MBA study. For example, top banks, energy or oil/gas companies. I have been browsing their websites but to no avail in terms of the MBA sponsorships.
I am thinking of staying in the main industry before joining consulting firms as a specialist. Any internal insights would be much appreciated.
Thank you

MBA sponsorship

Hi there,
Honestly, I haven't heard of/seen this. Not to say it doesn't exist, but I did not see anyone with this sort of setup at Stern (only those coming from/joining consulting firms).
That said, it's possible some firms with Leadership Development Rotation Programs would have this as well as potentially some of the banks. I would be absolutely shocked if energy/O&G provided this though given the current cost-cutting climate.
The best way to figure this out is to continue to network and tease out this information during your calls.
Good luck in your search!
For industry firms sponsoring MBAs, I have heard about few exceptional cases who are super duper high performers and mostly in Coporate Strategy types roles. Otherwise this is not common practice really..
But, I think Banks, PE firms or Tech firms would be more open to consider sponsoring if you are a high performer, have proven your loyalty, and get the right leadership support behind you. Don't try dont get :)
It's uncommon, but does happen. Especially if you're part of a corporate leadership program. But if you're currently working in the industry, why don't you ask your HR team whether they have an MBA sponsorship program? Seems much more direct than to ask a generic question here...
Hi, many large firms do it, but it depends on tens of aspects and it is not included in a standard career path
Best,
Antonello
