Hi All,

In addition to prepping for my interviews with MBB, I would love to get a sense of what other jobs might be out there that would include the elements of high-level strategic analysis, varied engagements, reasonably high compensation, and a fair degree of autonomy. Essentially, I'd be interested in other highly-satisfying roles for those think like consultants but don't end up in consulting.

In my MBA program, Samsung's GSG is perhaps the best known but I've heard there are roles at 3M, Maersk, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and others that feel a lot like consulting, just within a home office. Unfortunately though, I've been having a lot of trouble compiling a list of the companies and specific roles that fit this description. Formalized training/developmental programs would be ideal as well. Does anybody know where I might begin? Tough also because they're all classified quite differently, ranging from "corporate strategy" to "corporate entrepreneurship" and more.

Bonus question: Has anybody worked in a role like this that would be willing to advise others?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hi,

You should look for "Management rotational programs". There are 2 kinds of them:

  • Graduate rotational programs
  • MBA rotational programs

However, these programs have little in common with internal strategy. Usually, it's a 2-year rotation within the different departments (marketing, supply chain, finance)

Best!

Hi Vlad, I was the one who originally posted this question. To be clear, I'm not looking for management rotational programs (having already come from one pre-MBA.) What I'm instead looking for are programs focusing on Strategy specifically, that tend to hire former consultants, like Samsung's Global Strategy group. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
