Hi everyone, I am a graduating student and I got an offer for Monitor in another country (I live in the EU). My ambition is to work at an MBB firm one day. How will working at Monitor for ±1 year impact my chances to enter MBB?

Hello There,
Frankly, it depends on the options you have on the table. If the offer from Monitor is what you have, then yes you should go for it. You will have atleast seen and experienced the consulting world which is always a good starting point than starting fresh. With regards to your chances at MBB, it will depend on a lot of factors - your undergrad college, overall track record of academic performance, projects/experience you can showcase on your CV from your time at Monitor etc.

The “impact” of working at Monitor can only be positive if you show commitment & focus. Give your best, perform well and learn as much as you can. I dont see why you wont be able to move to MBB in future. But remember its a future event which may or may not happen according to your plans. So, its important that you make the most of the opportunity in hand NOW and let things happen.

Hi there,
It's a good opportunity, assuming you don't have other options at present. People often “move up” from lower tier/boutique firms to MBB, including a good number of people I coached.
My advise in these situations is generally to not overthink or over strategise regarding the next few years. All you can control is right now whether or not you take the offer. And from my perspective, you seem better off taking it.

If you don't have another offer, then of course you should take this one!
Working at Monitor for 1 year isn't going to help you. What will help you is 1) Working there for 1.5 to 2 years and getting a fast promotion 2) Getting a lot of experience to boost your resume and 3) Networking extensively next time around

Without knowing the realistic alternatives it is difficult to provide advice.
Is is worse than a “Tier 2” or a strong boutique, but better than working for a company without any brand name or for other parts of deloitte.

first of all, congrats to your Monitor offer!
Short answer here is that a stint at Monitor will significantly increase your chances to move up to MBB at some point, as it will give you very high probability to land MBB interviews nowadays.
It's a strong brand on your CV and MBB firms, now more than ever, are very keen to hire candidates that are “broken in”, i.e. bring at least a bit of consulting experience to the table. It simply reduces time-to-being-productive and hence helps the firms' needs to fill their imminent staffing gaps.
I know countless examples that wen through that route across different regions - Europe, Middle East, SEA etc.
