Do experienced hires also have to solve the problem solving games (MBB)?
Overview of answers
For the Associate role, yes. I gave the test.
This is very specific to each candidate's case.
Depends on the office, depends on the role, and depends on luck as well.
Best is to confirm with HR/recruiting. And to prepare for it accordingly.
Hi there,
It depends on your seniority and company. For what concerns McKinsey, MBAs have to do the Imbellus, so if you want to join at that level (Associate) you will normally have to take it.
Best,
Francesco
Hi!
It depends on the specific profile. Some of my candidates (experienced hires) had to do them, while others didn't take them.
Best,
Anto
Hi there,
It honestly depends on the specific company+office+role. You should assume yes, but await instruction. Once they invite you to interview you will know - all of these tests can be prepared for adequately in between the time you receive the invite and need to take the test.
As long as you focus on your case prep you should be able to handle the games without too much adjustment.
I had to do Pymetrics with BCG, but didn't have to do the Imbellus.
Hello,
It depends on the company/office/role you are applying for (e.g. are you applying for a generalist position or expert consulting), but generally speaking yes. If they use problem-solving games as part of their recruiting process, that will apply to experienced hires too. I would recommend checking with HR whether this applies for the specific office/role you are applying to.
Hi there,
This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:
From the experiences of coachees of mine across different companies and regions, it seems that you also have to conduct the problem solving games, depending on your seniority. For instance, you will most probably not be asked to conduct them if you are already a partner with your current employer, but I fear you will have to for most other roles.
In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for the upcoming problem solving games and interviews as a senior hire, please feel free to contact me directly.
I hope this helps,
Hagen
