What is exactly the Capabilities & Insights Analyst role at McKinsey? Is it just a rename of the Research Analyst role? Heard the Research role at McKinsey has transformed to involve more direct work with client instead of just internal knowledge initiative, is this true? What’s the possibility to switch to a Consulting role after 1-2 years?

It is a renaming of the research analyst role but the role has completely transformed. There is a LOT of client interaction, you will be staffed on teams and work on client problems and not as an internal resource for lower effort work.
This is not a role to consider in order to switch to consulting roles after that. It is very very difficult to do so and takes a lot of time and effort and senior leadership support. I personally know people that have tried and failed to make the switch.

Hi, thanks for your answer! Will a top MBA increase the chance of transitioning to a consulting role?
If you get an MBA from a top school after the capabilities and insights role then yes
