I'm just wondering is it against company's policies if MBB consultants or offerees offer paid mock interviews? Or is it something that is allowed? I know ex-MBB consultants can definitely do that, but not sure about current consultants or those just received offers from MBB.

Can MBB consultants or offerees charge fees for mock interviews?
Overview of answers
- If you are an existing consultant and you also conduct interviews, then it is definitely a conflict of interest if you provide coaching as well.
- If you are an existing consultant but do not conduct interviews, even then there is a risky proposition of conflict of interest. I believe you will not be allowed to provide coaching services or paid mock interviews. However confirm with HR.
- If you are an incoming consultant, then I believe you can provide services up until your day of joining. My personal opinion only.
Hi there,
You are correct that this is not allowed. At least at BCG employees were not allowed to conduct coaching services while employed - I can't imagine it would be different for Bain or McKinsey.
I cannot asnswer legally, but I see a conflict of interest, and at minimum a “gray area” if a consultant is providing interviews to candidates applying to that same firm. Even if this is not specifically stated (as something they can't do) on their contract or code of conduct.
There are a few clear red lines regarding being paid for coaching. Being part of the recruiting team (and the candidate wants to applying to that firm), helping someone to get an offer to that same office they're working in, or giving out referrals.
Regarding someone who just received an offer, I see no constraint nor conflict of interest.
You definitely cannot coach people while employed at MBB - that is a huge conflict of interest and will result in termination of employment.
