I am currently up for promotion to manager in one of the Big 4 (accounting) and was offered an in house position in the industry. My ultimate goal is to go to MBB. What would be more beneficial for a career in MBB? An indept experience in industry or more client facing and business development opportunities as a manger in a big 4 accounting company?

Hi there,

First of all, congrats on that upcoming promotion!

If your goal is to optimize for MBB, you should stay for that promotion. Showing career progression and gaining that additional experience/responsibility is a big boost to your resume!

Generally it wil be easier if you have solid consulting experience in the bag via Big4.

Having said that I have seen poeple do it from all sorts of prior background. Trick is how do you tell a convincing story via your CV, Cover Letter, Referrals and interview performance.

Ideally you get to do sth that is as close to the nature of consulting as possible. Highly analytical, hardcore client facing, and a mix of strategy and hands-on operations. In-house consulting / strategy development is likely a good starting point.
