BCG NYC vs Chi

1st round interview BCG BCG Case Interview
Frage bearbeitet vor 7 Stunden

I have already received an interview for BCG NYC (well, east coast, but assuming NYC since that was by far my top choice). However, I am having second thoughts about whether I'd make it through the first round in NYC since it is much more competitive. At the end of the day, I would rather live in NYC, but I would also love to work for BCG. Any advice?

Hello! First of all, congratulations on getting an interview! If you have been invited to a first-round interview already, you've cleared a big part of the hurdle in terms of the competitiveness. It might be a bit awkwa ... (ganze Antwort lesen)

Very confusing ROI/return !!!

BCG Corporate Finance M&A

From finance defition:

ROI =Net Return on Investment/Cost on Investment

or

ROI = (Final Value of Investment − Initial Value of Investment)/ Cost of Investment

Would like to seek clarification on ROI/return is used in different cases and if my understanding is correct -

Case 1:

Kellogg 2018 Tarrant Fixtures

The solution gives a formula of:

ROI = Return/Investment = Profits/Capital Employed = (Revenue - Costs)/(PPE or CAPEX +Working Capital)

I think the formula is wrong, as Profits is NOT Return. Unless, in the calculation, initial CAPEX is amortised to yearly costs to come up with the Net Profit.

(For this case, they assume no new investment, so using Profit alone as Return is ok, however, the formula given is VERY misleading.)

Case 2:

Darden 2018-29 Fire Proof

“The company wants to achieve at least a 15% ROI on any new expansion project within 3 years. BCG vs. McKinsey (U.S. North-East office, focus on renewable energy/utilities/decarbonization)

BCG McKinsey & Company
Neueste Antwort am 2. Aug 2021

Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of deciding between a BCG and a McKinsey offer (both based in Boston). I currently considering three main factors to make my choice: (1) culture and people (2) work/life balance and (3) level of the work (depth, breadth, etc.) and exit opportunities.

While I'm open to exploring different areas, I have a broad interest in renewables and the energy transition/decarbonization space (from generation to distribution/storage all the way to electric vehicles).

I'm going to focus on (3) for this question.

3) Do you believe there is a significant difference between the type and level of work BCG and McKinsey would do in the energy/utilities/decarbonization space?
How would you recommend that I find out more about this? I've been talking to folks at all levels at both firms, but it's hard to get an accurate gauge. How do you do your "due diligence" on this topic?

Thank you!

Best,

Lucio

Hi everyone,
I have a second round interview at BCGDV for a Venture Architect position, interviewing with a Lead for 45 minutes and wondering if there is a case interview included in the process? Could anyone clear my doubt please? Did ask my HR coordinator who said there is no need to prepare in advance but still unsure of what to expect.
Many thanks!

Hi there, BCG DV generally does not to case studies and rather opts for a combination of behavioral, brainstorming, and hand-on exercises (including take-home assignments).

MBB Experienced Hire Event

Neueste Antwort am 2. Aug 2021

Hi All, I was recently invited to one of the MBB London experienced hire networking event (twice). At the end of the call the host gave us a deadline to apply for the consultant role which is approaching soon. At this stage, I do not have an official referral available, however, both the events application were based on submission of our resume.

Should I go ahead and apply for the consultant role through online application? (since both the events were through submission of resume) or should I try harder to get a referral? (I don't think I can get a referral in such a short span since the application deadline is by the end of this month)

Thank you in advance!

Bombed the BCG Casey chatbot Interview

BCG BCG Case Interview
Neueste Antwort am 31. Jul 2021

I feel horrible after bombing the casey chatbot interview today during BCG first round interviews. There were two interviews - one traditional case with a person and the second one with the chatbot. I feel like I was so well-prepared for the traditional case with a person (which went very well), but when it came to doing the chatbot interview - there were no resources to prepare for this. The prompts were long with dense text, the math was also heavy, and the 25 minute time was not sufficient to do this test. I also couldn't ask proper clarifying questions about the business model so I didn't even understand the case. I also did math errors (which I realized afterwards) but since there was no feedback - I just had one chance at doing the math and my mistakes propagated throughout (this would not happen during an interview with a person). The chatbot is just not something I'm used to and as a result I bombed it and I am quite upset about it.

Is the chatbot interview weighed just as heavily as the real interview? Should I reach out to the recruiter to tell them my situation? Should I request for an additional interview with a person? Should I reach out to other contacts I have within BCG to tell them my situation?

Hey there, To add to the comments here. I have talked to 20+ people who took the test recently and their feedback is very similar. they were all surprised about the speed of the assessment the real test was mor ... (ganze Antwort lesen)

Do different MBB offices offer interviews on the same day?

Neueste Antwort am 26. Jul 2021

I'm recruiting for undergrad internships at MBB right now and have not gotten an first-round invite or rejection email yet. Some other kids seem to have gotten rejections, invites, and even waitlists, but I have not recived any of those at this point.

Could this be because the office I'm applying to has not made decisions yet? NPV /WAAC ?

Bain & Company BCG Case Interview Case Maths Math problem MBB McKinsey & Company NPV
Frage bearbeitet am 26. Jul 2021

Hello

I come from a technical background, PhD in Engineering not MBA. I have a few questions about the NPV and I appreciate it if someone can clarify the following.

1- Can someone please explain what is expected from advanced degree candidates to know about NPV during a case interview? every time I look it up or come across a case using NPV, they use a different approximation/method to calculate the NPV. It is becoming very confusing to me.

A Few NPV equations that I came accross are:

NPV = -Initial Investment + (Future Value of Money/Discount Rate)

NPV = Future Value of Money / Discount Rate

(usually Future Value of Money = Revenues - ongoing costs) - I think not sure!

- How you would interpret an NPV value?

2- There is a case in which we determine the following(the first half is all about determining the R and C as follows:

- Revenues = 928 M$

- Costs = 574M $

- Profits = R -C = 354M $

Then there is this given which I totally did not understand (no clairification as to what it means):

- Time value of money: 6 year lag for receipt of revenue

to Determine the NPV they used WAAC (I have no idea what is this):

Using the “Rule of 72,” we know that 72/rate of return means the number of years to double our money. With a six year lag and a 12% WACC, we know that all future cash flows must be halved

$354/2 = $177M in present value (NPV)

clearly the 12% is 72/6 (lag years)

Can someone please explain what is WAAC? Why NPV is halved?

Hi there, Several questions ;) Let me go one by one. 1) NPV The correct NPV formula closer to what you reported is: NPV = -Initial Investment + (FCF/Discount Rate) Where FCF= Free cash flow of the project g ... (ganze Antwort lesen)
