Strategy& pay structure in Asia (China / HK / Singapore)

Hi, guys, would appreciate if you could share your knowledge of Strategy&. I'm curious about the pay structure. In US, it seems that Strategy& pays even higher than MBB for post MBA role. Curious whether it's the same situation in Asia (China / HK / Singapore)? 


The organization structure is also quite confusing and not streamlined. I've noticed that some countries group Deal Strategy practice under PwC, while this practice is under Strategy& in some countries. Does this cause a huge difference in salary structure (i.e. doing similar works but under Strategy& / PwC)?

Hi there,

A quick google search will give you plenty of sites that give you comparison tables across countries and levels...much easier to digest than anything we type here :)

In terms of the US, the numbers I'm aware of show Strategy& pay to be comparable to MBB (Consultant level = $168k base versus $165k base at MBB). Asia should be comparable as well.

The salary structure should also not be grossly different between PwC Deals Strategy and Strategy&.

Look, there are always going to be differences in pay. However, these are normally in the +/- 10% range and should not drive your decision. I completely understand the desire to figure out these differences, but, fundamentally, you need to prioritize company brand, company culture match, role/level, topic interest, and geographic interest all above pay (again, given that they are all mostly comparable). All of these matter a lot more than 5-10k a year at this level..trust me on this!

Compensation in Asia for consultants varies significantly from their US counterparts. It also depends on whether the company is using a standard global pay scale or a local / regional one (my guess is that Strategy& does the latter in Asia). Reason for this variance includes:

  • Different tax structures: Asia generally has lower taxes than the US
  • Different contributions to national pension schemes: Varies by quantum and mandatory/not
  • And many other systemic or market-related factors

Hence, it shouldn't be assumed that total comp will be equally as competitive as the US! Although take-home may be more similar. Glassdoor is always pretty helpful directionally :) 

(Anecdotally, I’ve heard that Strategy& pays well, but is not market-leading in Asia)
