Just imagine the pandemic had never happened - that should be your outlook.

Clients simply won't put up paying huge amounts of money for people working remotely from the comfort of their homes - and I completely understand. I recently led a BCG study as a client and insisted on at least 70% physical presence during work hours for the core team.

There are of course some differences between types of projects, and you may be able to work remotely in some cases. Generally speaking, however, the impacts of COVID aren't long-lasting.

• McKinsey typically provides new hires with extensive training before they start working on client projects. This training can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the specific role and location. It is best to reach out to the company directly to get a better understanding of their training process and how long it typically takes before you are assigned your first project.

Ultimately, you are going to have to travel (covid is “done”), though some hybrid models may still be in place. You should be able to work abroad after a certain period of time, but, again, you need to talk to your specific office about the logistics of this.

Congrats on receiving the offer! Here are my thoughts:

1) This depends a lot per office and firm. E.g. BCG in the middle east is about 70-80% back to pre-covid levels when it comes to travel.

2) However, working from home office 1-2 days a week is certainly here to stay.

3) McKinsey typically has a very global model. So you can certainly expect to travel in the near future, if not immediately.

4) You do get a chance to express your staffing interests to some extent i.e. you can tell the staffing team what you absolutely DON'T want to work on. You also tell them a preference list of what industries/capabilities you would like to work on and they will try their best to accomodate.

5) I'm not exactly sure regarding the training timelines - should depend per position and per geography but I imagine it should range from 1-2 weeks. You will also have ongoing trainings as you work, to help you ramp up certain skills.

1. McKinsey has a global P&L with global staffing
2. Yes, there is still a chance for global staffing. A lot depends on your local office, staffing needs, your relationship with your PD managers, the staffing team, and your network with partners and EMs in the firm. Think of it like an informal job market.
3. You are usually able to pick and choose the projects to work on if you have a good network. Of course, staffing will propose projects if you are unable to find something, but you are always good to reject those proposals.

It depends on your office but generally travel is back, albeit at lower levels than pre-covid.

While most travel may be in your own country, it would be strange if you aren't sent abroad at least once.
