The skillset required for standard PSTs v/s the new-age PSGs are indeed somewhat different.

PSTs require only core skills - such as math. They test your ability to solve a particular question as it stands. You might have done similar question in your undergrad or so. Hence you chew through them quite easily.

PSGs on the other hand have a little less intensive math. But the style of decision making is very different. You need to take 80/20 calls. You need to consider the decisions you have taken previously, and a premonition of what decisions you might make next. You need to have a more anticipatory attitude.

That said - the only way to practice well for PSGs is to practice games. For tower defense you can pick games like Kingdom Rush. For Ecosystem games you can look at a Steam game called Equilinox.
