I'll be participating in the upcoming recruitment cycle for a FT job start in 2022. However, I have recently graduated this past summer and will be starting a non-consulting strategy job in mid-October (which is approximately the deadline date for most companies).

I'm planning on applying to all my target companies within this month. My question is do I put my new job in the CV and cover letter? If I should, what should I mention about it?

Most important thing is that you must be truthful.

If you are applying in Sep, and starting the job in Oct - the max you can write is that you are incoming into that company. That too when you have the offer contract. You would not be able to write anything related to your role or duties since you haven't started. Also, the decision of whether to mention the job at all will depend on the job itself. If it is going to add value to your application then sure why not? If you are joining a job completely unrelated and far away from consulting, and then applying to consulting - thats not going to be much of a value-add.

If you are applying in Oct, and starting the job in Oct - you could mention some of your roles and responsibilities. However, be mindful that you should not write a truck-load of stuff since you have just started working. Be realistic and honest about what you write. Eventually everything on your CV must be defendable.

Hi there,

Unfortunately you cannot.

If you're starting in the month of october and applying in october you can (say October-Present), but if you're applying in September you cannot.

If you do include it, you'll have to put an experience bullet point in the present tense that articulates the duties you are currently performing.

Anything that's worth showing off & adds value must go on the CV. If not, omit it.

If you have confirmed offer (both ways) , the company is worth showing & you have an idea of the role, put it in. It wont hurt I think

Echoing the other coaches on here, you can't details on a job you have not started. However, you can add the role and caveat as a role you will be starting soon but you cannot be detailed about the work you will do etc.

Hello,

I agree with the fellow experts here - I would probably just add a line saying you are “Incoming”, maybe a short description, and make it very clear that the role starts in October. I would only do this if it were a significant value add for consulting (e.g. a big name company / quantitative work).
